Small Batch Freeze Dried Beef Hearts
03/06/2006
This recipe is SO like shooting fish in a barrel, versatile, and FAST. I've fabricated them and then often that I have this memorized! My husband loves these. I mix in iii½-4 cups of whatever he wants (even a ½ cup of Optimum Nutrition's patently cooking whey to create 'power' bars) and a pinch of spice. He usually goes for nuts and raisins. I use a 15×x-inch jelly roll pan (JRP-a cookie canvas with edges) to create commercial-sized snack bars. (If you make this in a 9×13, consider dusting the pan with oat flour.) When I use a 17×xv-inch JRP, I add an extra cup of oats. I oil the JRP pretty heavily to prevent sticking. I've skipped the butter and also used fat-free sweetened condensed milk successfully. Stir for about four minutes to dampen the dry out ingredients. I use wax newspaper to printing the mix to the edges and corners. When information technology comes out of the oven 20 minutes later, I immediately utilize a pizza wheel to cut the bars. Then I seal the JRP with tin foil and (very quickly) flip it onto the table and remove the JRP to absurd. This creates a well-baked bar that he tin run with. We store them in zip lock snack bags—unless we're traveling, so a gallon freezer bag works. I dearest the hint from BEVERLYS55 dated 1/15/2006 (put the unopened tin of sweetened condensed milk in a basin of hot water while you mix the dry out stuff, open it and add the melted butter and it will be easier to mix). Thanks, Aliceyn, for contributing this recipe. My husband, his co-workers, and our friends appreciate information technology!
08/31/2005
I don't actually desire to charge per unit my recipe, just offer some changes. This is the original recipe that I put in, but what I really practice is use 3 cups oats and iii-4 cups of mixed'whatever'. The more you experiment, the more than you come up with your ain preferred recipe. I've used Reeces' Pieces instead of choc. chips for a different flavor. Trail mix usually makes up at least one cup of my recipes.
01/15/2006
This is so easy, and easy to make it as proficient-for-you as you desire. I use freeze dried edama beans and soy basics and whatever stale fruit I have around, and my husband loves it. Hint: put the unopend can of sweetened condensed milk in a bowl of hot water while you mix the dry out stuff, open it and add the melted butter and it volition be easier to mix.
09/06/2006
These are fantastic. I line a ten'x15' cookie sheet with parchment. I omit the butter and utilize low fatty condensed milk. I reduced the coconut to 1/2 loving cup. Deleted the choc chips. Added raisins, cranraisins, dried papaya, peanuts, almonds, soy basics, pumpkin seeds and some rice krispies. I cut the recipe into 40 bars. My family beloved them. My husband suggested toasting the oatmeal a bit first. I volition effort that adjacent fourth dimension.
09/06/2007
This is a fantastic recipe! I leave out the butter and utilize skim condensed milk and it turns out great. This is a quick, easy, versatile recipe that has turned our firm into granola bar-junkies. Thanks for the recipe!
07/02/2007
Actually adept when you use flavored oatmeal. I utilize most one cup (two packages) of maple brown sugar flavored instant oatmeal and utilize 2 cups of the regular. Of course, then I leave out some of the other ingredients and add other things similar raisins. I've also tried it with banana-flavored oatmeal, which was good. Delicious. My little brother loves them. It'southward awesome because you tin experiment with different flavors!
11/14/2002
I had high hopes for this recipe -- I actually love granola bars. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. The flavor was good (although I probably would reduce the corporeality of chocolate chips), but texture was non. The bottoms of the confined were slightly mushy. (I think moisture formed at the bottom of the pan as they cooled. I'm not sure how to fix this problem, since the recipe said not to take bars out of pan until fully cooled.) Would not make again. :(
08/08/2012
I didn't want to worry about these bars spoiling (as butter tin can do in granola bars), so I substituted vegetable oil in place of the butter. I fabricated no other changes. I honestly thought that this recipe wouldn't be as great as the reviews stated just I'll tell you, they turned out admittedly perfect. The kids had one each for luncheon and are withal telling me how good they are and begging for some other. Next fourth dimension, I'll play around with the add together-in'due south to try to come up with some other combination but the recipe as is is fabled!
ten/21/2002
Unbelievable good! I enhanced the nutritional value past adding most 1/2 cup wheat germ. My kids loved them and I am going to apply them for my daughter'due south "snack sharing" twenty-four hour period at school. You can make all kinds of different mixes. today i made craisin, raisin and butterscotch chip bars.
05/01/2001
Exist certain to let this cool completely or it volition fall apart. Chewy and delicious.
03/06/2011
I followed this recipe pretty closely. I did take the communication of one person who said they added an egg. I had no problems at all with information technology aging - even just 10 minutes out of the oven - maybe information technology was the egg?? I as well added vanilla and nearly i/2 tsp of salt. We used dates (just a few), dried apricots, craisins, slivered almonds, sunflower seeds and nigh one/two cup of mini chocolate chips. I didn't try them cuz of a restricted nutrition, but my kiddos and married man loved them. Hubby said he liked them better than shop bought. I think I will try them with PB instead of butter next time. Oh - and my 9x13 batch made 15 bars that were just the same size every bit store bought. Wrapped in plastic wrap and froze for futurity lunches. Thank you for a good recipe! UPDATE - I brand these about twice a week now. I use 4 cups oatmeal, 3 cups other stuff (usually choc fries, dried fruit, basics), plus 1 egg and omit butter and add i/two cup lead. Tastes awesome - never falls apart. Considering of added oatmeal making them thicker I cut the pan into xx bars. Store in snack baggies. Yum! They freeze well as well. With 4 c. oatmeal, three cups other stuff, add one egg and 1/2 cup PB - cut into 20 bars - I went to a calorie calculator and they are approx 300 per bar. Go along that in listen when you make yours! They might be healthier than some in the stores simply they aren't lite!
09/16/2009
I LOVE this recipe!! I have used it a ton and anybody is impressed with the healthy snack. I skip the butter, they are fine without it, and utilize depression fat condensed milk. I follow another reviewers proffer of three cups of oats and three cups of whatever else y'all similar, then I just chop or food procedure my nuts, add in coconut and craisins. I employ a 15 ten 10" pan and I line it with parchment paper and the confined never stick. No demand for cooking spray. The tip to printing with wax paper was inspired. Works like a charm. I have also crumbled the mixture onto a baking sheet and baked for 15 min. stirring every 5 to get a great granola to add to yogurt.
02/10/2011
Wonderful recipe! I added a lot more than actress ingredients and family, friends, co-workers, EVERYbody loves these bars!
01/19/2011
easy AND yummy granola bars. i liked the gustatory modality of sweetened condensed milk and butter, a nice alter up from oil and dear. and the submitter was right, only apply whichever mix-ins sound practiced! my start batch were ruddy and chocolate, and i will attempt other combos in the future. i used parchment paper to line the lesser of the pan and they came out easily, and they cut easily while still warm. everyone loved these, great recipe!
09/xviii/2009
Like shooting fish in a barrel is right! I never knew making homemade granola bars could exist then easy and And so Practiced! The only matter I didn't have on hand was almond slivers and so I used chopped pecans instead. My family unit LOVES them! I won't exist ownership store bought granola bars e'er again! I like that information technology is then flexible and I can utilize whatever I take on hand too. I can't wait to experiment! My husband is a hunter and likes to pack granola bars in his pack to curb his hunger in the stand and that's what made me decide to try these. They literally took five minutes (or less) to mix up. My ii toddlers loved them too. I did follow the advice of a couple other reviewers and warm up the condensed milk before mixing and that worked really slick. A 9 10 13 pan made 14 generous sized bars. Thank you Aliceyn! UPDATE: Since I posted this I have made this using a jelly curlicue pan and the bars don't become as thick and it yields anywhere from 18-22 bars depending on how wide I cutting them. As well, one 24-hour interval I had only 2 ane/2 cups oatmeal so I substituted more coconut for the rest and volition brand them this way from now on! We LOVE coconut and you definitely can sense of taste the coconut this way! Likewise, I accept made these without the butter and they turn out merely fine. I won't be using butter in the future...the fewer calories the better. I make this at least 2x a calendar week now. My family can't go enough of them! I take used pecans and walnuts in place of almonds when I didn't accept whatever on manus and that tasted adept also!
09/19/2009
This is an awesome recipe. Some earlier reviewers had wondered whether you lot can use evaporated milk in identify of the sweetened condensed. You certainly can! I made this with evaporated skim milk and without the butter (I added a couple tablespoons of saccharide)and it turned out great. Next time I'll add a few spices to give it some more flavor (I don't practice coconut).
07/14/2009
These were wonderful!!! I was reluctant at get-go because of the sweetened condensed milk, and not wanting to use and then much saccharide for the children, just permit me tell y'all, the trade off was worth it. My three and 6 twelvemonth old loved it and ate it all, asking for seconds. What a healthy treat. I used my homemade granola, which I usually make in large amounts, and contains oats, wheat germ, sesame seeds, raw cashews, peanuts and almonds, dried cherries, dates, and raisins, and used only half a cup of chocolate chips, another one-half of a cup I put on the bottom of the parchment lined pan, and melted in the oven prior to spreading in the granola. When washed, I lifted out the parchment and let it absurd on a cookie rack for nigh an hour, then cut into bars on the paper on a cutting board, and into the fridge to cool completely. The granola bars had a soid chocolate layer on the bottom, and crunchy gooey goodness on top! Wraped in wax newspaper aith kids stickers to hold closed - I volition never ship some other store bought bar for snacks! Thanks!
12/02/2010
I am super pleased with these!!! So easy; can't wait to try out different variations of cereal, nuts, dried fruits, candies, & endeavor w/nonfat/lowfat condensed milk. I used: regular oats (not quick cook), ground flax, chopped pistachios & almonds, sunflower seed kernels, stale cranberry & blueberry craisins, raisins, Kashi crisp cereal, & kokosnoot. I 'chopped' the oats a bit since they were not quick cook -worked great. I toasted the oats in the oven, then toasted the basics, coconut, and flax too. Used 3 c oats & planned to use 3 c other ingred but got carried away & it was closer to iii.5-four c. Warmed milk in hot water earlier opening -great tip. With the actress ingred, I did use 2 T. melted butter (Smart Balance - healthier) because the mix seemed a bit dry, otherwise I don't recollect it's needed. Mixed in lg bowl & then used hands to mix better. Pressed downwards firmly, covered w wax paper & hammered west/ apartment meat mallet. Removed wax paper, baked in a 16x11 pan lined with foil, which yielded sixteen lg bars, peradventure .five in. thick. Broiled 18-xx min, could have been less. Cooled ii min in pan, cut into long rectangles with pizza cutter, cooled 10 more than min, removed foil w/bars from pan, cooled completely on the foil. Bang-up texture, delicious flavor w/customized ingred, and so much healthier! Adjacent time I will try 6 c full ingred, add together chocolate or M&M'south & bake less to try for softer texture - these are chewy & firm (simply not difficult). Agree together beautifully. (They get firmer as they cool; cutting warm).
09/15/2010
Excellent recipe; I followed the ingredients list exactly as written. Only small change I made wasn't a "recipe" change, I just didn't press the bar mixture all the mode to the edges of the pan. I left about an inch border between the pan edges and the mixture. The bar mixture is solid enough that it holds it's shape while baking and doesn't spead itself out to the pan edges. When I exercise this, information technology avoids whatever of the bars having hard pan-border edges when they're cut. Also, merely i other annotation. I reallly like all the variations of this versatile recipe, submitted past those who have tried information technology. Notwithstanding, I don't empathise why some people are saying this recipe is no adept when they inverse the recipe to the point where it is a COMPLETELY Dissimilar recipe, then they give information technology one star.
08/22/2012
Very tasty and very piece of cake
02/23/2011
Instead of butter I added a large 1/2 loving cup of peanut butter which I "melted" in the microwave to thin downwardly, added an extra cup of oats & some protein powder. Warmed the condensed milk which was a great tip. To keep the mixture from sticking when spreading wet your easily and printing down with fingers or palms and rewet as you get. I thought it would fill up a 17x15 jelly whorl pan simply wasn't quite plenty. 20 minutes was the max in my oven as the edges burned. Used parchment to line my pan and then wouldn't stick. Cut in pan, covered with foil and flipped onto counter. Just make certain you completely cool or they will crumble.
09/11/2010
Used dried apricots and blueberries and semi-sweetness mini chocolate chips (the chocolate chips brand this special). They taste like the Kellogg's night chocolate-almond bars you buy at the grocery store. Lookout the baking time, as you don't want these to overcook. Absolutely delicious and EASY.
06/24/2008
Such an easy and tasty recipe! For my healthier batch I omit the chocolate chips and cranberries and add 1/2 c. Chopped stale apricots, 1/2 c. raisins, 1/2 c. chopped dates. For a guiltier pleasance I substitute the butter with melted peanut butter, and subtitute the cranberries with 1/two c. assistant fries (broken into little pieces) and 1/4 tsp. salt. A tasty treat for sweet & salty fans like me! Also, for those of you who discover that these bars crumble also easily, I've plant that you have to really press these into the pan. Try spraying a spatula with nonstick cooking spray and using it to firmly press the granola into the pan. Likewise, I never had any luck flipping the pan. I just wait until they are completely cooled in the pan earlier I cut them and that works for me.
07/28/2012
The BEST!
03/27/2005
I actually similar this recipe and take made it many times now, because both my husband and I accept them to piece of work. The first fourth dimension I had a difficult time getting them out of the pan, so now I line my baking pan with wax paper. MUCH easier :-) I too add 1/2 cup of flaxseed repast to brand them a bit healthier.
06/09/2012
All I tin can say is yuuuuummmm-E! Didn't change anything most the recipe and it was fantastic! Definitely plan on making these again, cracking recipe.
03/05/2008
I did not have any nuts on hand, so I but used the shredded cocnut, and white chocolate chips and milk chocolate fries. I felt like the bars were a little banal, just the kids and I liked them and ate them. Next time I volition add casheews to them. I as well took somebody's advice and cooked for only 20 minutes rather than 25. Just they were not crunchy enough for me. I envision granola bars being a little crunchy. I will work with this recipe and plow it into my perfect granola bar! Also I lined the pan with parchment paper. Worked nifty!!
06/24/2014
I absolutely dear love dearest this recipe! I made it today with a few changes though! I added i cup dear instead of the condensed milk and used regular vegatable oil instead of butter. I used the regular onetime fashioned rolled oats and I toasted the iii cups in the oven for about fifteen mins at 160C beginning. I added dried apricots, dried cranberries, pitted prunes and almonds. I merely centre balled the measurements. The result was fab! My husband said " This is even better than the ones we buy at Whole Foods"....WOW! Thank you for sharing the recipe..
09/07/2010
Probably one of my favorite things I take ever made! They are definitely going to exist a staple at our house now! I used regular oats--not instant, and opted out of the cranberries, choc chips, and coconut. I used almonds, dates and raisins--almost 3.5 cups worth. And I also used the skim condensed milk. I cooked them on a Pam sprayed Silpat mat, and they didn't stick a bit. I cut them inside v minutes, but didn't take them out till completely cooled. They turned out so hearty, chewy, sweet, and succulent! This gets 6 stars in my book!
01/20/2006
I will never buy shop-bought granola confined once more! My husband and I love trail mix so raisins, peanuts and mini Grand&1000's were the perfect combo. I added 1/3 cup wheat germ for added texture/crunch. Yum!
08/24/2006
Still another rave review...Rave! Rave! Rave! I have never been able to eat granola bars before due to nut allergy, but now I make my ain so easily! The pickiest married man in the world gives them two thumbs upward and takes ane for breakfast every morning. Use parchment newspaper (not wax newspaper) and they don't stick at all.
10/07/2008
I've already made four batches of this stuff. Every week I arrive since I establish information technology. The beginning two times I found information technology a bit dry out, I think you can totally ge carried away with calculation stuff. Then what I did was I bought all my basics and mixed them in a tupperware bowl I could continue for next time and measured out a cup of them, and the same with my fruit. I besides added a piddling less coconut in substitution for a 1/2 cup of protein powder. And the other thing I had to practice was use a smaller pan, likewise equally use i/4 cup of honey to make them moist enough for my 2 year old to consume also which fabricated for a really nice chewy bar. I've used both regular and lite condensed milk with really not much of a gustation divergence probably considering I do add i/iv cup of honey to the mix. My mom and I discovered yous could make dissimilar kinds using just like pecans and almonds with apple pieces and cinnamon and using a butterscotch chip in supervene upon of the regular chips. This is a favorite in our house, and I accept now the recipe down to a science without looking. Cheers for sharing such a healthy snack for me and my family!
09/20/2011
Absolutely DELICOUS!!! Made recipe as close to original equally possible with raisins as a commutation for the cranberries, three/4 cup chocolate and only one/4 cup almonds for that is all I had on hand. Every bit mentioned by another reviewer, I did cut with a pizza cutter immediately after baking and covered pan in foil and was able to flip entire pan of bars over to absurd. Nice brown crispy bottom. Devoured one before they even cooled. Easy, delicous and will brand again and again. YUMMMMMMM.
05/27/2011
In my biased opinion (as a fan of many types of boxed granola bars--Non a fan of all the junk they put in it), I found this to exist the best I've tried so far...and I've tried a LOT of recipes for granola bars from this site! The consistency was exactly right once cooled. They hold their shape, non too crumbly, slightly chewy, perfect corporeality of sugariness. Equally long as I've got oats and sweetened condensed milk in the pantry, I take no demand to pay through the nose for a box at the store!! Thanks for sharing!
07/xi/2003
Great recipe. Used the rest of a trail mix I had (cheerios, raisins, granola, pretzels (crushed), 1000&one thousand's, peanut butter fries)my 5 kids loved them. Volition definately take them on our camping trip. Then Piece of cake!!! Wasn't sure if consistency was right, only was perfect after letting them sit in refrigerator for most xxx min.
04/28/2011
I brand these often for my 5 children. I use regular oats and combinations nosotros take enjoyed are: almond/huckleberry/white chip/vanilla extract, cherry/dk choc/pecan, peanut/heath bits/peanut butter instead of the butter walnut/pecan/cinn chips/raisins/cinnamon Perfect recipe! Cut right away and permit cool before removing.
07/05/2006
The but change I would make is to bake on parchment paper or aluminum foil since I establish it took a lot of patience to go the bars off the pan, and I greased it really well.
01/05/2011
AMAZING. I used karo instead of sweetened condensed milk, and also used pecans. I had the keen idea of using muffin tins, and they work out merely as well, and store ameliorate besides.
08/10/2004
This is a very good recipe--non exactly what I was looking for, but very good. Chewy, held together well once cooled, came out of pan nicely, good flavor. I didn't have all the add together-ins listed, instead I used chocolate fries, raisins, and a few chopped walnuts. Also added in some flax seed meal for nutrition'due south sake. They are very sweet, merely the kids loved 'em and they thought they were getting cookies instead of (halfway) heathly nutrient. Thanks for sharing!
06/18/2011
This is a great recipe every bit-is, absolutely no adjustments needed. The oats/condensed milk/butter/coconut base is slap-up for experimenting; I add all sorts of various stale fruits, nuts, and sweets. My favorite is cranberries, macadamia nuts, and white chocolate.
12/20/2007
I merely wanted to add to the reviews that I take fabricated this recipe into granola to serve with vanilla yogurt as well. I just bake as directed and stir later the twenty min, then bake and stir in five min intervals till it all looks golden. After baking a spread it all out on tin foil and break up into small pieces and let information technology absurd. This is a great recipe!
05/x/2002
LOVED THESE!! A very easy recipe for kids, and so adjustable!! I love use-what-you-have recipes, and this is certainly a good one for that! (I substituted raisins and miniature Thou&M's, yummy!) Yes, fifty-fifty though they're delicious warm they actually need to cool to firm up - we ate some out of the oven with spoons though as we but couldn't help ourselves!! Thank you lot.
05/26/2012
nice, i like that's information technology's quick and customisable. I used ground upwards hazelnuts instead of sliced almonds. I also like that information technology's got lots of oats. I used rolled oats instead of quick cooking. A keeper. Hazelnuts and apricots come to listen, as does white chocolate fries and cranberries. Lots of possibilities. (I just noticed, reading other people's reviews, that I forgot to add the butter to the recipe! oh well, it was squeamish anyway!!) * * * Made it a second time, used ane cup almond meal in lieu of sliced almonds, dessicated coconut in lieu of flaked kokosnoot, 2 tbsp rice bran oil in lieu of butter, and added one egg white (just because I had it on paw) and it turned out beautifully! I absolutely love this recipe. I have a healthier one with yoghurt and beloved instead of sweetened condensed milk, but I love that this one is so succulent, versatile, and QUICK!!! Thanks again!
x/21/2010
I love this recipe. I use this site all the fourth dimension and never go out a comment but I had to post and say how yummy these were. If you're looking for a good for you granola bar recipe this isn't for you. Just if you're looking for a recipe that tastes like what y'all purchase at a store this is it. I made a substitute for the sweetened condensed milk using 2 eggs, two tbsp flour, 1 c. Chocolate-brown sugar,1/2 tsp. Of blistering powder, and smoothly salt. Sooooo much cheaper than buying the real thing. Afterward the bars cooled I made a thick pulverization sugar icing and drizzled it on top. Yummy!
10/26/2005
I constitute this recipe a few months ago, printed it up and have been making information technology quite frequently. I lost my print out, and came back for another re-create! I would exist lost without this recipe. It turns out perfect every fourth dimension, with all the dissimilar varieties I accept done! The 2 recipes that are requested the nearly are a mix of 1 c raisins, 1 c sunflower seeds, 1 c coconut and 2 c of mixed dried fruit, one c sunflower seeds, 1 c coconut. Thank you so much for contributing this recipe Aliceyn! My family and I profoundly appreciate it.
08/17/2011
I merely took these out of the oven a hour ago....used parchment, non greased and they did not stick at all. Used a 9 x 13 pan..thought they would be besides thin with the 10 x fifteen pan. At showtime they were crumbly when i started to cutting them but when I let them sit about twenty mins they firmed upwards and I was able to make squares easily. I should have cutting the peanuts up and should accept cut the cranberries (trader joes) upward as alot of them kept falling out...otherwise the recipe is very good..thanks
05/thirteen/2011
This is exactly the type of granola bar recipe I take been searching for! I followed the recipe but added a few more ingredients -- one/2 c. wheat germ, 1/4 c. flaxseed, 1/ii c sunflower seeds, i c Craisins, 1/2 c raisins, 1/2 c shredded coconut and a 1/2 c mini chocolate chips... my boys LOVED them. This will definitely be my get-to recipe from now on. And so happy well-nigh the coin I volition exist saving, not to mention knowing exactly what I'm feeding my kids! Thanks!
11/22/2006
i didnt have condensed milk on me..so i combined a tin of evaporated milk and one 1/iv cups of sugar in a saucepan and simmered information technology until the sugar was dissolved. information technology took almost an hour to bake the bars and they came out a niggling likewise sweet
06/07/2011
OH MY GOODNESS, SOO Skilful! No, really. . I would give these ten stars if I could. So simple, then delicious, so many options. I'll exist making these again and again. . . After mixing the get-go 3 "base" ingredients, I added a dash or two of cinnamon and salt, i/two cup toasted coconut, i cup toasted sliced almonds, ane/2 cup pecans, and 1/2 cup craisins. Only, once again, as long as you have the first three ingredients, the rest of the recipe is very forgiving and flexible. . . thrown in a few cups of whatever you like! Side by side, for my mix-ins, I'll try a little pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, toasted pecans, and perhaps butterscotch chips. Thanks for such an amazing recipe!
03/02/2010
Keen texture and flavor. Followed other proffer of 3c oats and 4 c of whatsoever. It worked perfectly. I added craisins, chopped basics and choc fries. I'm getting ready to make them over again and I'm going to try peanut butter and mini choc chips. The tin foil flipping proposition worked great also.
08/13/2008
These are pretty practiced. I added seedless raisens rather than cranberries because of the toll, and couldnt notice anything other than organic chocolate drops and then used smashed up patently cooking chocolate pieces. I besides missed out coconut because I can't stand the stuff! They're actually moreish and my daughter loves them. Nosotros volition be taking them camping with u.s.a. on Saturday.
11/xxx/2008
These piece of work great! I read the reviews and used greased parchment paper in a jellyroll pan. I cut them as soon as they came out and covered with foil, flipped them over on a cooling rack correct away. I have made them with many different ingredients and they're always great! Just keep to near 3 cups oatmeal and nearly 3 cups add-ins. This would be a practiced recipe for those who have nut allergies with coconut, chocolate and dried fruit!
09/xviii/2011
These are bully, and super easy. I brand them healthier by doubling the recipe, and use 1 1/4 cups of Almond butter instead of the 2nd tin of condensed milk. Per recipe I likewise sub 3 tbsp canola oil for the melted butter, employ pumpkin seeds in place of the coconut, upwardly the cranberries to 1 loving cup, omit the choc chips and add together 1/3 cup of flax seeds and 1/3 cup of whey protein pulverization. (These substitutions are per recipe. Double them if you lot are doubling the batch like I practise.) Super healthy and loftier in protein and Omega 3's...nothing bad in in that location except the condensed milk, and ane can divided between ii pans of bars is pretty minimal saturated fat. I freeze one of the pans (cutting into bars, layer between wax newspaper in an closed container). Crawly grab and become breakfast with some fruit (even my breakfast-hating husband volition eat one of these every morning on his fashion to work), or a nifty mail service-workout snack.
02/06/2010
I beloved how easy information technology is to change the ingredients in this recipe to conform your mood. I've used mini m & m'due south and mini marshmallows for a sweeter care for, and sometimes substitute dried cherries for the cranberries. Cheers for such a yummy, easy to follow recipe.
02/15/2011
Excellent!! Didn't change a thing. Reminded me of the trex mix bars that I use to get at Trader Joe's until they were discontinued. And so happy to come across this recipe!
ten/17/2013
I make these all the time. My family LOVES them! I usually substitute peanut butter for the butter and change up the add-ins. Basically 3 cups oatmeal, can sweetened condensed milk, ii-iii tbsp peanut butter (or butter) and 3 cups whatever else sounds good! Our favorite is mini chocolate fries, coconut, craisins and macadamia nuts. :) My husband says they sense of taste like the expensive, all natural granola confined simply better (and cheaper!).
11/20/2009
fun and easy to create custom granola bars by substituting your favorite ingredients. I used craisins and mini chocolate chips. Very yummy!
04/21/2011
Very good. Volition bake 5-8 min less next fourth dimension. A scrap as well crunchy for u.s.a..
06/03/2010
Sooo tasty, and really easy to put together. I don't think information technology'south possible to screw this recipe upward!! With a base of oats coconut and sweetened condensed milk yous can customize these granola bars to suit whatsoever taste preferences. I added 1/2 cup of 100% bran and 1/4 cup of footing flax seeds to my granola bars and they are delish! Great recipe!!!
11/06/2010
i was really looking forrad to making this, especially considering of the high rating and reviews. But unfortunately it did not come out the way i hoped for. The bars did not stick together--i had to melt them an extra x minutes. The lesser was really moist. I recollect this was partly on my fault because i added the "3 cups of whatever" that had some moisture in it. i volition be trying this again with drier ingredients though. thank you for the recipe! This was very elementary and very adept, I don't like coconut so I substituted 1/2 cup sunflower seeds and 1/two cup chow mein noodles! I used dried bing cherries instead of cranberries. I took them to work and they disappeared!! Everyone wants this recipe! They held together fine, not much crumbling & I did line the pan with parchment newspaper. I will do less chocolate & more fruit next time.

Just made two versions of this. I made information technology "every bit is" and also made it substituting i/ii of the almonds with sunflower seeds and 1/2 of the chocolate chips with peanut butter chips. The second version is my favorite. I saw in other reviews that theirs came out soggy. I suspect that they may have used evaporated milk instead of condensed milk. There is a big departure in volume and consistency that might explain why theirs did not plow out. I will exist making this and will go on to substitute. This is by far ane of the easiest.

Wonderful sense of taste. I have made this twice. Notwithstanding having trouble keeping their shape. But yummy!

Great filling healthy bar. I made with fatty-gratis condensed milk and take changed the ingredients many times. It is fun to see what you tin create and such a prissy option to take on hand. I like my bars a little crunchy so I bake them a fiddling longer and put them in a cookies sheet pan 11x15. I broiled them on parchment paper for 25 minutes. When they came out of the oven I slid them off the pan, let them cool on the parchment paper v minutes and and so cut with my pizza cutter and let them cool. WI cutting these into 36 confined. When cool, I wrap 2 bars in plastic wrap and put them in a sealed purse. I can then take them user-friendly to catch and non eat the whole pan as they are so practiced but they are so filling you lot don't need anymore than 2 bars at a time. Easy and fun recipe.

Fabricated these for my daughter's volleyball team and they went crazy for them! I used parchment paper on a jelly roll pan and had no problem getting them out. Likewise used this every bit an opportunity to end upwards all the half empty numberless of granola in our snack drawer...put in about 2 cups of information technology. My girl did annotate however, that she'd prefer fewer chocolate chips (I'd used 1 cup), equally we don't really dearest the combination of stale fruit and chocolate. I'll experiment more than next time...and at that place will be a next time!

These confined were great! SOOO piece of cake and versatile! I toasted the almonds and coconut and put peanut butter in place of the butter. Took them camping ground concluding weekend, and they were a striking! Thanks for awesome recipe :)

Very like shooting fish in a barrel recipe. Only problem is it too chewy and doesnt "stick" together plenty. not certain how to resolve it, otherwise very tasty.
05/31/2011
I replaced the melted butter with peanut butter, reduced the flaked kokosnoot to i/two c and increased the choc chips by i/2 cup to compensate. I also did non use ane.five c of nuts/fruit but substituted with rice krispies which worked well. Totally a versatile recipe if you conduct the full general proportions in listen :)

OMG! This recipe was a hit with my hubby. He LOVED them! I added dried cherries instead of cranberries and used fat costless condensed milk merely they turned out great! Very easy to brand, very tasty, will make over again. The chocolate and cherries were very skilful together. Cheers for sharing!

My husband loves these, he's been taking a couple in his dejeuner box the final few days. I used a jelly curl pan and found the bars to be the perfect thickness that mode. I also recommend following the suggestions of the most helpful reviewer, I did...and had no problems with a soggy bottom chaff. I added raisins into the mix equally well as the cranberries. Very good, moist and chewy. I'm storing mine in the fridge in a plastic container and on day four they are still moist and fresh tasting.

I don't know if it is simply me but afterwards eating a couple of i inch past 1 inch portions of these, I start to feel nauseaus (sp?). I'm non lactose intolerate, though I have a very mild allergy to dairy but I eat cheese everyday and not get through this. I think it's a little as well sweet for my gustatory modality and way also moist.

This recipe is so versatile. I used 3 Cups quick oats to 3 one/2 Cs of chopped pecans, dried cherries and i entire large viii ounce bar Lindt 90% cocao. The 90% cocao kept the sugariness of it downwards while the cherries added but enough. I broiled them for 27 minutes, took them out, cut them into bars and let them cool completely. They were perfect!! For second batch I used 14 ounces of Karo syrup instead of the sweetened condensed milk. So I added two cups raisins, one cups finely chopped becans and about i/4 cinnaman and a tsp. of table salt. I baked it the same fashion, cut them into bars so allow the cool. Over again, very awesome. Oh, one more tip. I lined my 9x13 pans with parchment paper start. The bars came out like a dream both times. Thanks for sharing this great recipe. I can't wait to attempt some other combination. I'one thousand thinking peanut butter and chocolate chips with salted peanuts. Mmmmmm
03/18/2012
I added 1/2 cup peanut butter instead of butter. I left out the coconut and added a dash of salt. THese are AWESOME!
09/10/2010
A new fav at my house!
09/22/2010
Crawly, Awesome! I did white chocolate chips, cranberries, and almonds. My family unit loved this!
03/15/2009
Wow! Like shooting fish in a barrel and so many options to attempt. I read all the reviews and and made mine with all of them in mind.I stirred the mix for 4 minutes. I used the Jelly Roll pan with parchment newspaper and coconut oil on the bottom, and so I pressed down the granola firmly with wax newspaper. I coverd the finished granola with foil for easy flipping. I used the pizza cycle after 5 minutes, and it worked beautifully! I pretty much stuck to the recipe except I added the one actress cup of oatmeal(old Fashioned). I used 1 loving cup of chocolate chunks, and 1/2 cup of dried cherries. I too warmed the condensed milk. Thanks to all of your reviews! They all helped. My confined tasted GREAT! This recipe will be a staple!
12/17/2008
this was way easy and adapatable and yummy! okay, maybe information technology's not a salubrious granola bar exactly merely I don't consume granola bars for the health anyway :) I added Goji berries, ground hazelnuts and walnuts and used regular chocolate chips - the goji berries gave them a festive holiday look for the party I went to (cranberries would work the aforementioned) and they were gobbled upwards faster than the chocolate chip cookies on the table. Thank you - I'll apply this one over and over over again!

Very like shooting fish in a barrel and yummy. Have made this several times and have fabricated the post-obit alterations to my liking. I apply onetime-fashioned oats or a mix of sometime-fashioned and quick cooking. Likewise use whole almonds. Makes for a heartier bar. The whole almonds are definitely harder to cut, merely worth it. Easiest prep I accept found for this is to line a jelly roll pan with parchment paper, dump in the stuff, comprehend with a sheet of waxed paper, and curlicue with a rolling pivot. When washed blistering, slide them off the pan (while however hot and on the parchment paper), cut with a pizza cutter (while notwithstanding hot).

these are VERY sweet but adept

This recipe is Groovy, I will be using it regularly. I used coconut, craisins, and chocolate chips, they are much better than any shop bought multifariousness! I let them cook for merely 20 minutes, and so they would still be chewy. Could non believe how sweet they turned out to be (though not too sweetness), with no sweeteners other than the sweetened condensed milk.
04/24/2012
EASY is the key discussion hither! These are so fast and like shooting fish in a barrel to throw together. Took them to a meeting this afternoon and got rave reviews from several people . . . a definite KEEPER!
05/14/2006
I liked this recipe. Easy to make and yous can make substitutions with what you lot have on hand! They were very tasty!
eleven/18/2008
This recipe was a good starting indicate. I made it vegan by using 2 mashed bananas instead of the butter, kokosnoot milk instead of sweetened condensed, and agave to sweeten. I had to employ more nuts (chopped walnuts, almonds, and a few brazil nuts instead of sliced almonds) and added chopped dates. This is a very versatile starting place for actually good, healthy granola bars.
04/19/2010
I fabricated 2 batches. The get-go with 2 Tbsp peanut butter, i C peanuts, and one C mini chocolate fries. They're pretty yummy, but not as sweet every bit store-bought, so you lot can't look that. I might add more than peanut butter and a petty chocolate-brown saccharide side by side time. My second batch had 1 C coconut, 1 C sliced almonds, ii/iii C white chocolate chips, one/2 C craisins, i/3 C flax seeds, and well-nigh ane/2 tsp cinnamon. Oh my goodness. Delicious!
05/29/2009
I've made this twice in two weeks. The offset time I made the easy recipe even easier by using Sam's Choice "indulgent trail mix" from WalMart. The mix has white chocolate, choc chips peanut butter fries, golden raisins, cranberries, almonds, peanuts, and cashews in a i lb. 12 oz handbag. I establish this a good mix, not too much of whatever one matter, plus cheaper ($five for entire handbag) than buying split up components. I had coconut in the freezer and then I threw a little of those in. I also doubled and used a jelly curlicue pan. I likewise used 1 tin can fat-gratis condensed milk and one regular because that is what I had on hand. I used 1/2 quick oats and 1/2 sometime fashioned. I establish that these were thicker and needed a little more than cook time simply turned out great and chewy! The second time I made a single batch with fat-free condensed milk, the trail mix, no coconut but added cinnamon, one/2 quick oats 1/ii old fashioned oats, and 1/two C wheat germ. In a 9 x 13 these were thinner and didn't need additional cook fourth dimension, in fact xx minutes was almost too much. Either way, they were great! They also freeze very well!
08/24/2012
Super easy! 3 cups of oatmeal, three cups of various mix-ins (craisins, choc chips, nuts, etc) and a can of sweetened condensed milk. I skip the butter and use fatty costless milk. Comes out great everytime.
12/07/2008
This recipe was fabulous with dried cherries in place of cranberries. I make these and give them abroad as gifts, and everyone raves about them!
04/thirteen/2012
I use this recipe all the time, or at to the lowest degree the full general thought of it. I always modify the ingredients, just keep the same proportions. I e'er sub out the butter for extra virgin kokosnoot oil - and if y'all aren't aware of the benefits of coconut oil you really should look it up. Its great. :) I sub in things like chia seeds, hemp hearts, quinoa puffs, ground flax. Sub in organic agave nectar instead of saccharide. I apply a baking sheet with a lip and line with parchment paper. A regular sized sheet will fit two batches nicely. I press the mix into the pan until firm and smoothen. I bake until the top starts to turn gold and then when I accept it out of the oven I slide the parchment and granola out of the pan and leave it to absurd on the stove top (glass top) I notice the key to getting good shape is to gently and quickly cut the granola while it sits warm and so leave it to cool completely before running the pocketknife through once again to cut them apart.
04/29/2012
These were delicious! Great flavor! I had the same problem with these that I have with all the granola bars I've made though, they don't hold together like the kind y'all purchase! I don't remember information technology's the recipe though...information technology's me! I think I need to get a larger pan and cook them slightly longer. I would definitely make these again, they were the perfect ready when I had a sugariness tooth!
09/16/2008
I followed the recipe the commencement time, but since nuts and coconut are non immune in our schoolhouse here in town I had to make some changes - simply middle balling I added raisins, white chocolate fries, more than oatmeal, cranberries and fresh apples! They are super tasty!!! My son LOVES them and at present I have a healthy alternative for a snack! Thanks!
09/03/2006
These were very practiced, though I wasn't totally blown abroad. Anyhow, I made these pretty much as chosen for, simply varied the mix-ins somewhat and added a pinch of salt and some spices. That long review a page or two dorsum by wife2maleRN was very helpful. I baked mine in a 11x17" jelly roll pan, lined with foil that was heavily buttered. When it came out, I scored it with the pizza cutter & flipped it onto another sheet of foil to absurd. Later cooling, it easily broke into overnice clean bars. My married man and I took them camping this weekend and ate every one. His only complaint was that they should exist chewier -- merely peradventure if I had used the 9x13" pan as called for, the thicker confined might've been chewier. May make again if occasion warrants. Cost-wise this doesn't beat store-bought past much, since nuts aren't inexpensive.
04/29/2009
These are great! I just added trail mix, craisins, and chocolate chips. My husband loves them, cheers!
10/27/2010
honestly, I have not tired these however (had some of the raw "batter")... I am in the process of baking them, merely it ten:30pm and I have to wake upwards at vi:00am. I really look forward to trying these, only I found this recipe under good for you treats. At that place is no way these are salubrious unless you cut and add together a bunch of different stuff. They were extremely like shooting fish in a barrel to brand, which I loved! I expect forward to these. Give thanks you for the idea!
04/17/2009
wonderful granola bar, easy, and no honey! yay! family member deathly allergic to honey in any course. just well-nigh every granola bar on the market has honey! cheers for the recipe!
08/31/2008
Good base recipe. I used what I had on manus: walnuts, stale dates, chocolate & some cinnamon-pretty adept simply not great with these changes. UPDATE: followed recipe but used 1c of dried cranberries, merely 1/2c chocolate and fat-gratuitous sweetened condensed milk. I broiled them on a foil-lined cookie sheet sprayed with Pam and they're fantabulous! My son snuck one off of the cooling rack and gobbled it down immediately. He says they're "cookies". I got the crunchy texture I was looking for!
09/21/2009
These turned out bang-up! I followed someone elses review and baked on a Jelly Roll Pan, I wanted them a little thicker so I just left a few inches at the end of the pan and it worked out great. I didn't accept everything in recipe so I added what I had, almonds, pecans, sunflower seeds, and kokosnoot. I don't think you tin go wrong no matter what you put in information technology. I volition bake for 17-18 min. next time. I especially liked that they weren't real sweet as with store bought granola bars.
04/21/2009
Great, piece of cake recipe. I love how yous can hands tweak it to your preferences. I used 1.5 c regular oats and 1.5 flavored oatmeal packs. I omitted butter and used fat-complimentary condensed milk. Accept the greasing the pan role very seriously!
09/06/2011
Easy and succulent!
08/07/2003
These were OK at all-time. They were a little besides hard to exit of the pan then would fall to pieces in my hand. The flavor was a picayune bland. My daughter wouldn't eat them. Don't remember I'll make these over again.
